I began the project in 2003 attempting to counter the on-going, categorical vilification of homosexuality with a “one world” vision that happens to also come from the perspective of a gay man. But what has instead emerged is a mission more aligned with transcending the priggish mind than to underline social inequities. Following the Aristotelian credo “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts”, it is my mission to provide a body of work that reaches beyond the aesthetic, via a pseudo-folk-art style that also includes a spiritual, philosophical and social awareness component. To define a ‘style’, over time I’ve fostered a technique with paint (that mimics print-making ) to create the perfect (straight-edge) line and symmetrical balance that resembles more the generic graphics we’ve allowed ourselves to become accustomed to than a piece of fine art. Each individual work when complete becomes part of the larger whole (currently 80 -- 24x48” acrylic paint on panels).
